Rosterbook: character, profession and rested XP tracking.

Keeping the roster in view, with a clear line between recorded observations, estimates, and unknowns.

From the workshopRosterbook is being built and tested. The website preview uses example characters and values, and it doesn’t connect to a game account.

Start with one useful table

Switching characters is simple. Remembering the state of every character you own is not. Rosterbook pulls a focused set of observations into the one roster, character and class, level and spec, professions, rested bonus XP, last played, and any pending mail.

What I’m after is a compact view you can search and sort, one that answers a small question quickly, without turning into an inventory manager or a second game inside the game.

An observation has a time

A character’s last recorded state is useful, but it’s still a record, not live truth. The moment a character is offline there’s a limit to what an addon can know, so a missing observation shouldn’t harden into a confident zero, and an unavailable mail count shouldn’t become proof of an empty inbox.

That distinction has to survive into the interface. A recorded amount, an estimate, and an unknown value should each read differently, whilst the main view stays concise enough to be worth opening.

Rested bonus XP, in context

The roster’s rested amount is described against the character’s current-level XP requirement (the blue bar you see whilst you’re levelling). It isn’t a percentage of the character’s personal rested cap, and it isn’t a promise of how many levels that rest will buy you.

The sample bars on the homepage show the layout only. The real values depend on the latest observation, and on the game behaviour I’ve actually verified for the supported client.

Keep the scope small

Search, sorting, settings and persistence are all part of making a roster worth opening. Map routing, inventory transfers, and an addon somehow knowing about characters you haven’t logged into are a different kind of problem, and not one I’m trying to solve here.

The priority is the focused roster and the reliability of what it shows, not the feature count. Release details belong with the actual package, once it’s ready to publish.
