Addons / Design notes

Battlebook: a battleground journal in development.

A memory for the battlegrounds: matches, familiar players, and the design of a session journal.

From the workshopThis is a design note for an addon in development. The website interface is an illustrative study with example data, rather than a live feed or a public release.

A session needs a memory

At the end of a battleground session a handful of moments stand out, the rest blurs together, and by the next evening even those are going. Battlebook starts from a simple idea, keep a useful record of the matches you played and the people you ran into along the way.

A journal should help you answer a question, not compete with the game for your attention. So the design puts battlegrounds and players at the centre, with a compact overview and more detail only when you actually want it.

Two ways into the same story

Battlegrounds are the first way in. A single match only really means something inside a wider session, so the interface should make it easy to move between one encounter and the broader run of the evening.

Players are the other. Familiar names are what give a session its continuity, and a record of who you’ve run into before is often worth more than another disconnected number, whether you’re reviewing a duel or just remembering who was on the other flag last time.

That’s the direction. What’s actually available will depend on what the client can observe and what’s been recorded, and I’d rather show you less than invent a number to fill a column.

An interface that stays quiet

The visual language follows the rest of Restokins, dark steel, restrained brass, readable type, and a small amount of colour that has a job to do. The session comes first, and decorative framing shouldn’t make the record harder to read.

The preview on the site uses invented sample matches to show the layout (it’s a mock-up, not a scoreboard). It doesn’t claim a real win rate, a ranking, or any history for the channel.

What comes next

Development notes and demonstrations will land here as the work progresses, and a public download should arrive with a version, the supported client details, and installation notes. Until then, the workshop is the window into the project.
